...to put it mildly. Just noticing that I set this blog in motion back in August of 2011; apparently I have just enough energy and attention bandwidth to fill out the bare minimum of blog profile data, but not the stamina to see it through even one measly post. Several weeks back I read something that felt 'inspirational' and 'eye-opening' regarding various techniques an author might use (or 'wanna-be' author as the case may be) to get the writing process started when in a funk: one said technique was, of course, simply write...anything for minimally 5 minutes every morning. I read this, felt inspired and tingly and all of that, then proceeded to...um yeah you guessed it...do nothing whatsoever.
Well, now it's 2 weeks on and there is that nagging thing buzzing around the back of my neck, that won't leave me be until I try this writing exercise and see what comes out (somewhat akin to an experiment in dietary fiber if you will). I suppose something needs to come out, even if it is pure unadulterated dribble, in order for any 'good stuff' buried further back in the neurologic GI tract to eventually rear it's head (all sorts of silly innuendo here if you are even vaguely inclined to potty humor lol). And enough about the tedium in the closet and on to something of the point of any of this...
My thought (and it sounded good inside my head at the time...really good as a matter of fact thank you very much) is/was that I'd like to blog about something I'm passionate about (no-brainer), incorporating both books and my love of simply 'collecting' things (almost certainly a feature of my yet to be fully fleshed out autistic spectrum disorder...as much as I hate the notion of disorder and all the baggage that word carries, I'd be criminally remiss if I didn't confess that 'disorder' is spot-on as a descriptor of my life and 'routine').
I'm absolutely goose-bump nostalgic over all things 70's and 80's, in particular radio, television, music, and...you guessed it...books! In addition, I love the open-ended adventure that is the scavenger hunt, crystallized for me by the act of wandering into the local Salvation Army or used-book store and simply grabbing each and every title that looks interesting or '70's'ish' (this last one is just a 'feel' thing, but more often than not I'm dead on once I get the cover open and check the copyright date). The musty smell of these old paperbacks is magic; you either get this or not, I won't try to convince further.
So...to blog of these books (not certain if this will be as formal as to be called 'reviews'...that word frightens me somewhat because I as yet don't know precisely what it refers to from the construction end...I, like the rest of us, know what the end product looks like, I just don't know what exactly gets us there...but more on this later, I digest), to blog on these random and mostly arbitrary finds, to say something (or more than something if the topic demands) about the author and significance at the time of publishing etc. My expectation is that I will read alot of gunk; equally likely though, I'm confident I will find a fair number of gems in the dirt, discover authors I had heretofore never heard of (some deservedly so, others simply because they have gone under my radar).
First and foremost, this will be an adventure, and if any of the drivel above has resonated with even one reader, I'd love to have you along for the journey!

'bout time. I'll be eagerly awaiting future ramblings on my favorite -- albeit heretofore BLANK -- blog.
ReplyDeleteOnce had a dog named '24'. I would call him by gently coaxing "here two four...here." LOL...or not?
